Jos Buttler has hit another big milestone in his T20 career by becoming the first England player to score 4,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He reached this achievement during Match 51 of the IPL 2025 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad. Earlier this season, he also topped 12,500 T20 runs.
Buttler is now the third fastest player to reach 4,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced, coming in behind Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. Here’s how the fastest players stack up:

In the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Buttler needed just 12 runs to hit the big mark. He managed to do it in his 117th IPL match, totaling over 4,000 runs from 116 innings, with an average over 40 and a strike rate close to 150. His IPL stats also include 7 centuries and 23 fifties.
Buttler’s career in the IPL started with the Mumbai Indians, where he played 24 matches and scored 527 runs with an average of 25.09. Although his average was on the low side, he maintained a strike rate over 145, which showed his aggressive style.
He really found his form after moving to Rajasthan Royals, where he played 83 matches and racked up 3,055 runs with an average of 41.84. During that time, he scored 18 fifties and 7 centuries, with a striking rate of 147.79, proving himself to be one of the most exciting hitters in the league.
After being released by Rajasthan Royals last year, he was picked up by Gujarat Titans in the auction. Playing for them in IPL 2025, Buttler has kept up his great form, scoring over 418 runs so far.
