Cricket West Indies has said that Johnny Grave will stop being its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the end of October 2024. Grave has been the CEO since February 2017, and during his time in charge, West Indies held the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, the 2022 Men’s U19 World Cup, and the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup.
“It has been a great honor to be the CEO of CWI since February 2017. After successfully hosting a T20 World Cup and making good profits for CWI for the third year in a row, I believe it’s the right time for me and my family to look for a new opportunity.”
“Since I became CEO, I’ve gotten a lot of help from many people, and I want to say thank you to everyone, especially the staff and the players. They’ve been really supportive, especially during the tough times of the Pandemic. They’ve trusted me and been dedicated to West Indies cricket.”
“My family and I have really enjoyed living in Antigua. We’ll take many happy memories with us, especially seeing our kids grow up here. I’ve given my all to this job, and now it’s time for someone new with new energy to take over and keep moving things forward. We’ve built a strong base, and it’s important to keep building on that,” Grave mentioned in a statement.
Johnny Grave was chosen to be the CEO of Cricket West Indies (CWI) by the former chairman, Dave Cameron, after Michael Muirhead left the position. Before this, he spent ten years as the commercial director for the Professional Cricketers’ Association in England. CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow thanked Grave for his hard work and commitment to cricket in the Caribbean.
“Johnny’s hard work, especially during difficult times like the COVID-19 pandemic, and his success in organizing three World Cups, including the Women’s World T20 in 2018, the Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup in 2022, and the recent Men’s T20 World Cup, have had a significant impact on CWI.”
“Clearly, the organization has made significant progress during his time in charge. A major accomplishment is the purchase and complete ownership of the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG), which is now our main location and serves as the base for our Men’s and Women’s Academies. On behalf of the Board and everyone at CWI, I sincerely thank him for his strong dedication and guidance over the past few years.”
CWI stated that they will start a detailed search to find a replacement for Grave, and they assured that the selection process will be both careful and open. They also mentioned that information about the recruitment process will be shared soon through different media channels.
