Greg Barclay was re-elected as the chairman of the International Cricket Council and in the same meeting BCCI secretary, Jay Shah was elected as the head of ICC’s Finance Committee. Not to forget Barclay was appointed as the Chairman for another two years.
A source close to ICC has given an update about Jay Shah’s entry into the ICC committee. The sources had a conversation with PTI where he informed,” Each and every member accepted Jay as the head of the F&CA committee. This is an equally powerful sub-committee apart from the ICC chair (Greg Barclay).”
The source further added, “India is a commercial hub of global cricket with more than 70 percent sponsorship coming from the region. It is imperative that an ICC F&CA should always be headed by BCCI.”
Jay Shah now has the power to deal with all the sponsors globally. He will also look after the revenue sharing among the cricket-playing nations approved by ICC.
Before Jay Shah when N Srinivasan was the president of ICC there was a BCCI member in the F&CA committee. However, when Shashank Manohar was the ICC chairman, any BCCI member did not have such power in ICC.
