Jasprit Bumrah schools a reporter who questions his batting ability

Even compared to the rather dull mood which became quite evident after the third day’s play of the third Test at the Gabba, Jasprit Bumrah somehow does seem to have his wits about him as he cracked a really funny line to light up the press conference after the day’s play.

Bumrah came in to address the media and was asked whether the performance of the Indian batters would add to the pressure on the bowlers. The reporter added that asking Bumrah a question to the batters might not be correct which drew a funny response from the pace spearhead.

“Yeah, it’s an interesting question because you’re actually making it a point to ask me how my batting has done so far. I think you should go use Google and see who has made the most runs in a Test over. But jokes apart, that’s another story,” said Bumrah while breaking into laughter along with those in the room.

Leaving aside the humor, the reality is that India’s batting will now give some serious reasons for concern, as it failed to get the best of the conditions after Australia piled on 445 runs in the first innings, thanks in large part to Travis Head’s 152 and Steve Smith’s 101. In a similar manner, India’s batting failed to produce results, as the visitors fell to four wickets by the end of the third day’s play. Mitchell Starc struck twice to get Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill while Josh Hazlewood sent Virat Kohli packing and the Aussie skipper, Pat Cummins ended Rishabh Pant’s time in the middle. It is now on the shoulders of the captain Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. Rohit has yet to score a run whereas KL Rahul looks nice and solid with 33 runs off 64 balls. If India has any hope of winning this Test, these two need to get together for a big partnership in order to keep any path forward open for them. The play on the fourth day may be affected by rain as it has on the first and third days of this Test. India would want to drain as much time off the clock as possible while they are still in contention for a win and keeping their hopes alive for a shot at a World Test Championship Final berth.
