The pace sensation of Star India, Jasprit Bumrah, was on Tuesday nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for December 2024 based on his remarkable performance against Australia in the recently held Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Bumrah collected 22 wickets in all the three Tests in December at an amazing average of 14.22, rounding up the above 31-year-old with 32 wickets in all five Tests.
Bumrah had to skip bowling in Australia’s second innings at Sydney due to a back spasm.
His remarkable spells included nine wickets during both the Brisbane and Melbourne Tests, which played a very important part in keeping India in contention.
Against Bumrah will be Australian captain Pat Cummins, who led Australia to a 3-1 series victory over India, and South African artist Dane Paterson.
Pacer Cummins boasted of fine form during the period, capturing 17 wickets in three Tests against India at an average of 17.64.
This also came in Adelaide when he could raise some eyebrows with his 5-57 – match-opening performance that gave hosts a 10-wicket victory.
Cummins was not only taking wickets but also putting runs in the kitty with vital innings of 49 and 41 in Melbourne.
Paterson’s efforts with the ball against Sri Lanka and Pakistan were vital in the Proteas’ successful campaign.
He took 13 wickets in two Tests at an average of 16.92 as SA secured a date against the Aussies in the final of the World Test Championship later this year.
