Jasprit Bumrah equals this elusive milestone of Lasith Malinga for Mumbai Indians

In the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 22, Jasprit Bumrah emulated franchise legend Lasith Malinga in becoming MI’s highest wicket-taker in IPL history. He then knocked down Heinrich Klaasen for his only wicket and increased his IPL wicket count to 170.

While Malinga achieved the milestone in 122 matches, Bumrah did so in his 138th IPL game. Despite his bad day where he ended with figures of 1/39, his wicket of Klaasen was important as it denied the batter from a good start, scoring 71 off 44 balls.

After Bumrah and Malinga comes Harbhajan Singh with 127 wickets on the all-time MI list, followed by Mitchell McClenaghan with 71 and Kieron Pollard with 69.

The most remarkable thing was that Bumrah is now the fastest Indian to reach 300 T20 wickets, beating Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of 300 wickets taken in 265 T20 matches. Despite playing a quieter game against SRH, Bumrah was backed by brilliant performances from his fellow overseas mates Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar. Boult accounted for 4 dismissals for 26 runs while Chahar chipped in with 2 wickets for 12 runs, restricting Pat Cummins’ team to just 143 runs. While Klaasen’s innings did a rescue act, solid support from Abhinav Manohar with 42 off 37 balls kept SRH afloat.
