“Jason Gillespie is somewhat similar to…”Ricky Ponting drops a massive praise for his former teammate

Australia’s famous cricket leader, Ricky Ponting, has drawn a comparison between Pakistan’s Test coach, Jason Gillespie, and India’s current coach, Gautam Gambhir. Gillespie became Pakistan’s Test coach in April, and Gambhir was recently named as India’s coach.

Ponting recently mentioned that Gillespie is somewhat similar to Gambhir and has an excellent coaching history wherever he has worked. The renowned former captain also stated that Gillespie will encounter some difficulties but will ultimately triumph in his new position.

“Jason Gillespie is somewhat similar to Gambhir. In every place he’s coached, he’s done an excellent job. I’m sure he’ll face some challenges, but I have no doubts about that. He’s a thoughtful person and, as I mentioned, he works in his own unique way,” Ponting commented during the ICC Review.

Continuing, Ponting mentioned that he and other former teammates of Gillespie have congratulated him on his new position and supported the changes Pakistan made to their team.

“Over the years, we’ve created a few WhatsApp groups with all of us who have played together. Everyone has congratulated him and wished him good luck in his new role. Honestly, I’m not surprised by the number of changes happening in that group. I understand it’s a different format, but their performance in the recent T20 World Cup was very disappointing. If you don’t make changes, you can’t expect different results,” he said.

Throughout his coaching career, Gillespie has been involved with various teams such as PBKS in the Indian Premier League, Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, and teams like Yorkshire and Sussex in England, as well as South Australia.

In other news, Pakistan is set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series starting on August 21. Before the series, they’ve appointed Saud Shakeel as their new vice-captain, replacing Shaheen Afridi.

Pakistan squad: Shan Masood , Saud Shakeel , Aamir Jamal , Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Huraira, Mohammad Rizwan , Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed , Shaheen Afridi.
