Originally, the fast bowler James Anderson stated that he would serve as the England men’s team’s bowling consultant for the tours to Pakistan and New Zealand later this year. Earlier this year, he was the only quick bowler with 700 Test wickets got retired from international cricket after Lord’s Test against West Indies.
As soon as he hung up his boots, Anderson joined the Three Lions as their bowling mentor. The England pacer revealed that he doesn’t want to think too far ahead since he is still learning various aspects of coaching. Anderson made comments regarding his extension prior to Sri Lanka’s third and final Test match against England played at Kennington Oval in London.
“At present, I’m scheduled to go to Pakistan and New Zealand during winter months,” Sky Sports reported Anderson saying.
“This is all new for me; I am still figuring things out as we move along. It’s somewhat deciding whether this is where I desire to divert my career into the next stage on my part and determining if I am capable of performing it on theirs,” Anderson commented further.
Since Anderson’s departure from international cricket, it has been left for other players such as Josh Hull and Gus Atkinson to take over. Atkinson actually made his debut during Anderson’s farewell Test match. To date, Atkinson has taken three five-wicket hauls all of which have been achieved at Lord’s.
Hull made his debut against Sri Lanka during the third Test match. He is in the pace attack alongside Atkinson, Olly Stone and seasoned Chris Woakes.
In terms of the English team they had a reasonable day after Day One with 221 runs for the loss of two wickets. Meanwhile Ollie Pope who had been going through rough times remained not out on 103 runs off 103 balls including 13 boundaries and two sixes.
