Jake Fraser-McGurk To Make An Entry Into The T20 World Cup Squad? Here Is The Full Report

Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short are likely to be Australia’s reserve players for the T20 World Cup. The World Cup is scheduled to begin on June 01 jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies.

Fraser-McGurk has been outstanding in IPL 2024 playing for Delhi Capitals as the opener. Despite his remarkable form, the top-order batter, who has yet to debut in T20 Internationals, didn’t make it to the 15-member provisional squad. This is due to Australia’s well-established top order in the name of David Warner, Travis Head, and captain Mitchell Marsh.

“Australia’s chair of selectors, George Bailey had suggested that Australia would carry just one reserve to the Caribbean when the provisional squad was announced, but they are likely to add a second with the in-form Fraser-McGurk set to be named alongside Short,” ESPNCricinfo reported.

Head, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Glenn Maxwell, all of whom are set to play in the IPL playoffs, will join the squad right after the IPL.

Players like Marsh, Warner, Agar, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa, Matthew Wade, Nathan Ellis, and Josh Inglis have seen limited action since the conclusion of the Australian domestic summer in March.

According to ICC rules, only players listed in the 15-man squad are eligible to participate in the warm-up fixtures.

The report added, “Marsh, Hazlewood, Inglis, Zampa, and Agar have all trained in Brisbane over the past fortnight along with Short. Marsh is understood to have recovered from his hamstring injury but he is still yet to bowl.”

Australia is set to commence their campaign against Oman in Barbados on June 5th.
