“It’s very sad to see England…”: Pat Cummins Takes A Jibe On Defending Champions

England, led by Jos Buttler, entered the World Cup as one of the strongest contenders for the title. Their lineup boasted of talented players, and their past performances had raised expectations. However, as the tournament unfolded, England’s struggles became increasingly evident. They managed just one victory out of four matches, leaving fans and experts surprised and disappointed.

Amidst this backdrop, an Australian reporter posed a question to Pat Cummins, inquiring about England’s recent defeat and their difficulties. With a somewhat mischievous grin, Pat Cummins acknowledged that it was indeed sad to see England’s woes. However, his reaction soon turned humorous as he struggled to laugh while answering.

The exchange went like this:

Reporter: “You mentioned good friends in other teams. It must have been heartbreaking to see England suffer last night?”

Pat Cummins: “Yeah, it’s very sad to see.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) couldn’t let this moment go unnoticed. They shared the video of Pat Cummins’ reaction on their social media handles, accompanying it with a teasing caption: “Contained jubilation? Don’t miss Australia v England on November 4.” The video quickly became a viral sensation, with fans and cricket enthusiasts sharing a laugh over Cummins’ candid response.

Pat Cummins also took the opportunity to discuss Australia’s journey in the World Cup. He admitted that initially, the team needed to have adhered to the style of play they intended in the tournament’s first two games. However, he emphasized that the team had become more aggressive in batting and bowling in the subsequent matches.

“Our group’s big on talking about the style that we want to play, and I think in the first two games, we did not win, but we didn’t nail the style we wanted to play. In the last few games, you’ve seen us be a bit more aggressive batting and bowling,” Cummins explained.

He praised the team’s openness to experimentation, including different field placements and bowling strategies, showcasing their determination to adapt and succeed.

“Bowling, everyone’s been open-minded tried different things; trying bounces, different fields, one over spells, and it’s just been a real buy-in from the whole team, and yeah, it’s been fantastic last few games. That’s a standard we want to keep going with for the rest of the tournament,” he added.
