‘It’s Up To BCCI Now..’ Ambati Rayudu Explains Why MS Dhoni Will Play Next Year IPL As Well

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden and Ambati Rayudu have offered their insights on the future of MS Dhoni. Hayden suggests that the Indian Premier League has possibly witnessed the end of one of its biggest icons, whereas the former CSK player Rayudu feels that Dhoni’s career still has more to offer and it is not his last IPL.

At the age of 42, former CSK Dhoni participated in IPL 2024 for his second year, despite grappling with a troubled knee. While his batting contributions were limited to impactful cameos towards the end of the innings, he served as wicket-keeper in all the 14 games for the team.

In the 2024 IPL as well, MS Dhoni got to see immense support from the crowd all over India. However, CSK was knocked out from the tournament after a loss against RCB by 27 runs at the famous M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 18.

Hayden said,“I think this is it. I do believe that this will be the last time that MS Dhoni will play. Certainly won’t be the last time that we see MS Dhoni. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t mentor or be a part of the family of CSK in an official capacity,” Hayden told Star Sports.

However, Rayudu expressed his different opinion and said,”I don’t think this is his last game. I just don’t see him wanting to end on this note. He looked a little frustrated, even when he got out. That’s very unlike MS Dhoni, he just wanted to qualify and finish on a high. But you never know with MS Dhoni, he might come back next year. And with the impact player role as well, it gives him the opportunity to be able to come in those last few overs and truly make that impact. BCCI better not remove the impact player role because we still want to see MS Dhoni play. So, it’s up to BCCI now. Do we want to see MS Dhoni play or not.”
