New Zealand’s fast bowler Tim Southee is really impressed with how Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah recovered from a back injury that kept him out of the game for most of last year.
Bumrah, who is considered one of the best bowlers in the world right now, has been performing well in all three types of cricket matches. Even the famous Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting thinks Bumrah is the “best bowler in all types of cricket over the past five to six years.”
Bumrah has played a crucial role in India’s victories in various cricket formats since he came back from injury in August 2023.
Southee said, as reported by PTI, “It’s impressive that he recovered from such a serious injury and returned even stronger than before. Plus, managing different formats of the game can be tough, but he makes it look easy.”
He continued, “Bumrah seems more experienced now and knows his game better. The time he spent recovering probably helped him come back refreshed and ready.”
Bumrah appears to be even more aggressive now compared to before his time off due to injury. During India’s victory in the T20 World Cup, he ended up as the tournament’s third-highest wicket-taker, with 15 wickets at an average of 8.26, a strike rate of 11.86, and a low economy rate of 4.17.
“We are witnessing an exceptional version of Bumrah in all three formats of the game. He is outstanding in all of them right now. I don’t think there’s anyone who is better than him in these formats; he is amazing across all three,” Southee commented.
Both Southee and Bumrah are expected to participate in the upcoming Test series between India and New Zealand, which is scheduled to start on October 16. The three Test matches will take place in Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai.
