“It was something like 20,000 people for our homecoming…..” Stephen Fleming Shocking Reaction For Chepauk Crowd On Dhoni’s Entrance

Chennai Super Kings is without a doubt one of the most well-known teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With a total of four championship trophies, CSK is the second-most prosperous franchise in league history. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s captain and a legendary figure in Indian cricket, is the epitome of CSK.

An estimated 20,000 fans flocked to see their favorite heroes during a practice session at the M Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk, according to a video provided by Chennai Super Kings in 2019. The fans cheered the loudest and the noise was deafening as MS Dhoni stepped out to bat. Stephen Fleming, the head coach of CSK, emphasized how special this moment was upon their three-year absence from the Chepauk.

Coach Stephen Fleming said, “The noise is a part of it. You associate that with the game. It was a practice day that struck home to me when we came back in and MS came out to bat and it was something like 20,000 people for our homecoming. Just the excitement and that noise for training was something I haven’t experienced before. It was unique and I know a lot of players and a lot of people who took note of that.”

He added, “The hairs on the back of your neck stood up, It was unexpected. It was great to try and have the players training in that type of environment. It was a real introduction back to our home ground.”

The IPL 2022 season for Chennai Super Kings was not excellent; they placed ninth in the standings. They boosted their team by adding renowned England all-rounder Ben Stokes in the IPL 2023 mini-auction for Rs 16.25 crore, making him the third most expensive player ever in the auction.
