Rahul Tewatia said that his team never lost belief in run-chasing. The Gujarat Titans became the first team to defeat the Rajasthan Royals as they pulled off a spine-chilling three wickets.
Gujarat Titans required 35 to win in the last two overs after Avesh Khan gave only 7 runs in the 18th over, taking the wicket of Shahrukh Khan.
However, in the final, Rashid Khan hit Avesh Khan for three boundaries, pulling off a stunning run chase.
In the post-match presentation, Rahul Tewatia said, “I was batting with Shahrukh, and Rashid was still to come. We were telling each other that two or three big hits could change the game. We had to just believe in ourselves and play according to the situation.”
Tewatia further added, “If you have wickets in hand, then it’s a matter of two to three hits. Going by today’s cricket and the Impact Player Sub, 40 off 3 is chasable.”
Tewatia, who was one of the major heroes in the Titans victory, scoring 22 of just 11 deliveries, thanked his franchise for giving him a free hand.
Speaking about the same, Rahul Tewatia said, “The team has given me the freedom; they know that I back my strengths. In practice sessions, I try and practice as per match situations, day in and day out.”
Before the match against the Rajasthan Royals, the Gujarat Titans came into this match after losing two consecutive matches.
Speaking about the same, Rahul Tewatia said, “It’s a long tournament. We lost two games, and those many games neither knock teams out of competitions nor do they make them champions. It was just that we tried not to repeat the mistakes that we made in previous games.”
