Injured Ishan Kishan has suffered another major blow. Sometimes, it feels as though luck simply is not on a player’s side, and that is how things look for him right now. He was in excellent form and had become the world’s No. 1 T20I batter. An injury at such a time is especially frustrating because a player wants to make the most of every opportunity when everything is going well.
Kishan has been leading the run-scoring charts in T20Is this year and was chasing more records. His injury has interrupted that run, forcing him to miss India’s last two matches against New Zealand. There is still no confirmed word on whether he will be fit for the next game.
Now, another setback has followed. In the latest ICC T20I batting rankings released on October 28, Kishan has slipped two places to third with 866 rating points. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan has moved to second with 883 points.
Ishan Kishan Ranking Setback Keeps India at the Top
The consolation for Indian fans is that the player replacing Kishan at No. 1 is his own teammate, Abhishek Sharma. Kishan has lost the top position, but it remains with India.
Abhishek’s outstanding innings in the previous match helped him return to the summit with 897 rating points. His rise gives India another reason to feel proud, even as Kishan’s injury and ranking setback remain disappointing.
India have four batters in the top 10, with Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma joining Abhishek and Kishan. England have three representatives: Harry Brook, Jos Buttler and Phil Salt. India’s four places, including the No. 1 position, underline the strength of their batting.
When Will Ishan Kishan Return?
The immediate concern is Kishan’s fitness. The latest confirmed update said he was recovering from a low-grade right adductor strain but had not regained match fitness. His availability for the next match remains unconfirmed.
The form he showed before the injury gives fans reason to hope he can challenge for No. 1 again once he returns. For now, the questions are when he will be back and whether he can immediately pick up where he left off.
