“Is Surya considered for the longest format or not…” Aakash Chopra Express Concerns Over Indian Team Selection

The recent announcement of India’s Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour has sparked criticism and concern within the Indian cricketing community. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and renowned cricket pundit Aakash Chopra have raised questions regarding the exclusion of Sarfaraz Khan and the intermittent selection of Suryakumar Yadav. The decisions have ignited debates about the selection process and the potential impact on players’ careers.

Aakash Chopra has raised concerns about the selection process for Suryakumar Yadav, highlighting the inconsistency in his inclusion in the Test squad. Despite making his Test debut against Australia in Nagpur, Yadav has not played a single Test match since then. Chopra questions whether Yadav is seriously considered for Test cricket and the reasons behind his intermittent selection. He also questions the absence of Arshdeep in the ODI squad and doubts his fitness.

“And what’s the deal with SKY’s intermittent selection for Tests…gets picked…gets dropped. Is he considered for the longest format or not? And why no Arshdeep for ODI? Is he fit?” Chopra asked on Twitter.

Aakash Chopra emphasizes the importance of effective communication between the selectors and the players. He raises concerns about Sarfaraz Khan’s future. He hopes that he will not be remembered solely for his First-Class cricket performances without getting an opportunity to play for the national team. Chopra calls for transparency in conveying the selection criteria and the expectations for players’ inclusion in the team.

“Will Sarfraz be remembered as someone who scored a mountain of runs in First-Class cricket and never got an opportunity to play for India?? I hope that’s not the case. And I hope that what more he needs to do to get picked is communicated to him. Otherwise, the sanctity of first-class cricket (the heart and soul of Indian cricket) will be lost,” Chopra mentioned.

India will play two Test matches and three ODIs in West Indies between July and August.
