Irfan Pathan, the former All-Rounder, dropped a cryptic post in connection with Virat Kohli’s bamboozlement on Day 2 of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy match against Railways. Once again, fans assembled in huge numbers at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to see their local hero. However, much to the disappointment of fans, Kohli could only last for 15 deliveries. After getting beaten on a couple of balls, finally, he found himself when he connected well with the ball.
A perfect straight drive appeared off his 14th ball that would reach the boundary, keeping the entire crowd ecstatic. On the next delivery, Himanshu Sangwan produced a perfect inswinger to beat Kohli and crash into his off stump, knocking it down. Kohli walked back to the dugout after scoring a mere six runs.
The second after Kohli was dismissed, Irfan went on X, posting a cryptic message asserting that a modern cricketer is one who plays cricket throughout the year and not one who trains for 10 months and plays for two.
“After all, a modern cricketer’s job is to play cricket year-round, managing niggles and injuries, not to train for 10 months just to play for 2 months,” he wrote on X.
A moment of disappointment for the thousands of fans that had overflowed the stadium hoping to see a Kohli masterclass. As soon as Kohli’s walking-out humans chose to leave the stadium.
Meanwhile, captain Ayush Badoni carried the burden of runs after the dismissal of Kohli with a knock like a captain. Sumit Mathur joined Badoni at the crease and forged a 133-run partnership, getting Delhi to a commanding position.
Badoni was a run away from his fourth first-class hundred but with all his experience, Karn Sharma denied him the joy of completing his century by getting him out on 99. Mathur remained undefeated at the end of the day with a score of 78(189) as Delhi took their score to 334/7 with a 93-run lead.
