Irfan Pathan drops a massive praise for Virat Kohli amid strike rate talks

Virat Kohli scored an impressive 62 runs off just 33 balls, helping the Royal Challengers Bangalore snag a close win against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. This marked his fourth straight half-century and his seventh overall in IPL 2025, breaking a new record for the tournament.

Irfan Pathan came to Kohli’s defense on social media, addressing earlier critiques of his batting style. He pointed out that Kohli can both stabilize the innings and go on the attack when needed. He can anchor the innings like he did last game with a strike rate close to 100. Today, he was aggressive with a strike rate of 187. He’s truly a champion in white ball cricket. Kohli’s innings featured five fours and five sixes, which were crucial to the match’s outcome and added to his growing stats. This was the fourth time in a row he scored 50 or more for RCB in the IPL. He also passed the milestone of 300 sixes for the team, hitting a total of 304 after adding five more in this match.

Against Chennai, this was his second half-century, just like he did in 2016. His 62 runs marked his tenth score of 50 or more against them, breaking the previous joint record of nine held by Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and David Warner.

Kohli’s stellar performance pushed his career total against Chennai to 1,146 runs, surpassing David Warner’s 1,134 runs against Punjab Kings. This makes it the highest runs any player has scored against a single IPL team.

Thanks to Kohli’s excellent batting, Bengaluru set a strong total of 213/5, which turned out to be just enough to beat CSK, even with Ayush Mhatre almost making a century (94 runs off 48 balls).
