The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abruptly called off due to a blackout in the area. The initial reason provided by the IPL broadcasters was a ‘technical failure,’ but IPL chairman Arun Dhumal later explained to IANS that they decided to cancel the game out of caution after some incidents in Jammu.
According to reports from The Indian Express, there was some panic when the match was stopped. Around 9:20 PM, one of the floodlight towers went out, and fans were evacuated from the stadium. Dhumal was seen directing fans to leave calmly. A player mentioned that they heard about attacks happening in nearby Pathankot and were told to return to their hotel immediately, which caused concern among the players, especially foreign ones who wanted to head home.
The report also noted that the decision to cancel the game was made by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association after consulting with a senior cricket official. With rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the BCCI held an emergency meeting and decided to suspend the IPL 2025 season until further notice.
This came after the match had to be called off after just over 10 overs due to air and drone strikes from Pakistan, leading to power outages in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, all close to Dharamsala. An official later stated that details about a possible resumption of the tournament would be shared soon. The IPL will stay on hold for now as the BCCI aims to support the nation during this challenging time.
