In an interesting development before the IPL 2024, Phil Salt has been brought in by the Kolkata Knight Riders to fill the spot of Jason Roy, who withdrew from the upcoming IPL 2024 season due to personal reasons.
Despite representing Delhi Capitals in the previous IPL season, Phil Salt remained unsold during the 2024 auction. However, Kolkata Knight Riders have now acquired the services of the English wicket-keeper batter for his reserve price of 1.5 crore rupees, as per the information provided on the IPL’s website.
“Kolkata Knight Riders have named Phil Salt as a replacement for Jason Roy after the latter pulled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024 owing to personal reasons. Having remained unsold in the auction after representing Delhi Capitals last year, this will be Salt’s second season in the IPL.”
The statement from IPL reads, “Bought at his reserve price of INR 1.5 crore, the aggressive wicket-keeper batter from England scored two consecutive T20I centuries against the West Indies in December last year. His 48-ball century in the 4th T20I at Trinidad is also the joint-fastest for England.”
In his debut IPL season in 2023, Phil Salt played in 9 matches for Delhi Capitals. Throughout this period, he accumulated a total of 218 runs with an average slightly exceeding 23. Despite the moderate average, Salt showcased an impressive strike rate of 163.91. His highest score of 87 occurred during a successful chase against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
