The IPL 2025 restart date is officially set. The BCCI has announced that the TATA IPL 2025 will resume after discussions with the government and security agencies. They’ve decided to move forward with the rest of the season. Originally, the final was scheduled for May 25, but it’s now moved to June 3.
Starting on May 17, there will be 17 matches played at 6 venues, wrapping up with the final on June 3. The new schedule includes two double-headers on the Sundays of May 18 and May 25. The playoffs are planned as follows: Qualifier 1 on May 29, the Eliminator on May 30, Qualifier 2 on June 1, and the Final on June 3. Venue details for the playoffs will be shared later.
The BCCI also wants to acknowledge the bravery of India’s armed forces, who played a role in making this return to cricket possible. They remain committed to national interests while completing the league.
IPL 2025 was put on pause on May 9 due to rising tensions along the India-Pakistan border, which resulted in some serious security concerns. The issue arose when the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals had to be canceled. Thankfully, after talks between the governments, BCCI and the IPL Governing Council found a way to get things back on track.
In the new schedule, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings will move their home games to Delhi instead of their usual cities, while Punjab Kings will now play in Jaipur instead of Dharamshala. The canceled match will be replayed on May 25.
For the playoffs, Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator were initially set for Hyderabad, with Qualifier 2 and the Final in Kolkata, but that could change. Another thing to note is that some countries have international matches starting before May 3, which might complicate things for teams trying to keep their international players. Also, there are only two double-headers scheduled for May 18 and May 25, with the Final taking place on a Tuesday.
