The Indian Premier League 2025, the 18th edition of the T20 extravaganza, is set to witness all eyes on it. Fans have a lot of curiosity about the season, with the teams set to get a fresh look after a mega auction held in November last year. While the teams could retain a maximum of six players, including either Right-To-Match or minimum one retained player, the rest of the squad had to be made via the auction bazaar itself.
Some of the big names went for huge sums and the bidding wars, in several aspects of the IPL 2025, were quite interesting to watch. Just for the records, Rishabh Pant now stands as the most expensive player sold in IPL auction history as Lucknow Super Giants signed him for an astronomical sum of INR 27 crore.
According to reports from Cricbuzz, the IPL 2025 will commence on March 22 with Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru. As per the report, the defending champions KKR will be playing RCB, which had announced its new captain Rajat Patidar, at the Eden Gardens. Last year’s runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad will also commence their season with a home game against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Uppal on March 23.
The report states that the finale is to take place in Kolkata on Sunday, May 25.
The report further claimed that apart from the 10 regular centres-Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Mullanpur, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata and Hyderabad-Guwahati and Dharamsala will also host matches.
It is likely that Guwahati will get a couple of ‘home’ matches for Rajasthan Royals on March 26 and 30. Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings are to be their opponents in those games. A couple of games are also expected to be hosted in Dharamsala for Punjab Kings.
Earlier, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, who attended the Special General Meeting in Mumbai, had said on January 12. “The IPL is going to start on March-23.”
