IPL 2024: ‘You Are Not A Franchise Captain Now But You Still Want To Be India’s Captain’, Aakash Chopra After Hardik Pandya Traded To MI

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has spoken on the future of Hardik Pandya as the all-rounder has recently joined his former team Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024. He said that Hardik Pandya will be playing in the next IPL as a normal player and it is not going to add value to his career’s profile.

Chopra emphasized the possibility of Hardik Pandya emerging as a potential successor to Rohit Sharma in T20I captaincy for India. He raised the question of whether Hardik not leading MI would create positive optics in this context.

While talking on his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “The one thing that won’t look good on Hardik’s CV is that he left Mumbai because he wanted to become a captain. You went to Gujarat and then became the Indian captain. You will no longer be a franchise captain now but you still want to be India’s captain – it doesn’t sit right.”

“It doesn’t look right whether you look from optics or any other angle, that you are not your franchise’s captain but are India’s captain in the T20 World Cup. It doesn’t sound right but so be it,” he added.

On November 26th, it was the last day for the player’s retention for the upcoming season of IPL 2024. Mumbai Indians released its clutch player Cameron Green who has been traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
