IPL 2024: Tim David And Kieron Pollard Fined Heavily By BCCI, ‘Cheating’ Case Imposed On Both Players

The batting all-rounder from Australia, Tim David, and their batting coach Kieron Pollard have been penalized 20 percent of their match fees for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct in the game against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 18th.

The fine on both the players was imposed after a viral video from the match that caused controversy. It showed members of the five-time champions’ squad and support staff in the dugout allegedly offering unauthorized assistance to batter Suryakumar Yadav in requesting a review.

An IPL statement regarding this matter reads, “David and Pollard committed a Level 1 offense under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. David and Pollard were each fined 20 percent of their respective match fees.”

“Both admitted to the offense and accepted the match referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.”

In the 15th over of Mumbai Indians’ batting, Arshdeep Singh bowled a delivery that was full and landed outside the off-stump, close to the line marking the edge of the playing area. Suryakumar, who had scored 67 runs from 47 balls at that point, tried to play the ball, but the umpire on the field determined that it was a legal delivery.

However, television cameras captured MI head coach Mark Boucher gesturing to Suryakumar that the delivery was wide. Subsequently, David and Pollard were observed encouraging Suryakumar to request a review, which is against the rules.
