IPL 2023: Venkatesh Iyer Blasts Against Mumbai Indians, Becomes 2nd Centurian For KKR After McCullum

In the 22nd match of IPL 2023 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In this match, the Mumbai Indians captain won the toss and elected to bowl first. The KKR has put in a decent total against Mumbai, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer who scored a brilliant hundred for the team.

Venkatesh scored 104 runs in 51 balls with the help of six fours and nine sixes. This is the second hundred by the KKR team since the inception of IPL. The first came in 2008 during the inaugural match of this cash-rich league between KKR and RCB. In that match, the former New Zealand opener Brendon McCullum got 158*.

Apart from Iyer, none of the KKR batters impressed anyone with their batting, and the team was struggling at 73/3 when Venkatesh Iyer started accelerating against the Mumbai Indians bowlers. At the end of 20 overs KKR scored 185 runs at the loss of six wickets.

For Mumbai Indians, Hrithik Shokeen got the maximum two wickets, while Cameron Green, Duan Jansen, Piyush Chawla and Riley Meredith managed to get one wicket each.

Before it, Mumbai Indians management opted to sit out Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav is looking at the captaincy. During the toss, Surya informed that Rohit Sharma will play as an impact player for the team.
