The captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team Dasun Shanaka has been signed by the Gujarat Titans (GT) to replace Kane Williamson for the remainder of the 2023 Indian Premier League season. Williamson sustained a right leg injury while trying to catch a ball at the boundary during the tournament’s opening match against the Chennai Super Kings on March 31, 2023.In the past few months, Dasun Shanaka has been an impressive player in T20 cricket, particularly in the middle order.
As the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team, Shanaka has an abundance of experience leading his side and can add extra value to any team apart from bowling and batting. He also led Sri Lanka to win the Asia Cup 2022 held in the United Arab Emirates.Dasun Shanaka is Sri Lanka’s white-ball captain and a dynamic middle-order batsman who is also brilliant with the ball.
In the recent T20I series against India, Shanaka’s performance was exceptional where he scored 124 runs in three innings with an impressive strike rate of 187 and an average of 62.00. In the ODI series against India as well, Shanaka was the leading scorer for his team and got 121 runs in three innings.It will be the first IPL season for the Sri Lankan captain and he has been acquired by the Gujarat Titans at his base price which is INR 50 Lakh.Kane Williamson made his debut for the franchise but suffered an injury while attempting to save a six hit by Ruturaj.
The New Zealand captain missed properly landing his foot and injured his knee, causing him to fall to the ground. Physiotherapists were called to attend to him and he was then taken off the field.
