IPL 2023: Sehwag Blasts On Prithvi Shaw For Mediocre Batting, Compares With Shubman Gill

When Prithvi Shaw started his IPL career with some impressive innings and then heaps of runs in domestic cricket, the former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri had addressed him as the mixture of Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and Brian Lara.

Shaw continued the same form in domestic cricket but he is struggling in Indian Premier League and his inconsistency has once again brought him on the radar of former cricketers and experts.

On the other hand, Shaw’s teammate Shubman Gill has made history in international cricket. His exceptional performances have made him an important member of India’s white-ball team. Gill, who was once Shaw’s opening partner during their Under-19 days, has progressed significantly and is now considered a key player.

After his abject performance in the match against Gujarat Titans, former India opener Virender Sehwag criticized Prithvi Shaw for not living up to his expectations. Shaw got out for a low score in the game against GT and Delhi Capitals lost that game by 6 wickets.

“He has been dismissed playing that kind of shots so many times…but he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL. He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
