The star of yesterday’s IPL game for Kolkata Knight Riders Rinku shared his story of how he went from transporting gas cylinders on a motorcycle to hitting five consecutive sixes in a match against the Gujarat Titans. His impressive performance helped KKR secure an impossible three-wicket win against Gujarat.
Speaking to India Today, Rinku revealed his difficult cricket journey from the small town of Aligarh. His father did not like cricket but Rinku kept believing in himself and ended up being the star of one of the most memorable chases in the history of IPL. He also added that he used to carry cylinders with his brother on their bike.
“It has been a difficult journey for me since my father did not like cricket. My father asked me to work with him. We used to carry cylinders on a bike with my brother. My mother also said that since our father is not supporting us, then we should just start working with him,” said Rinku.
KKR Batter also talked about his cricket idol and named the player who inspired him to be a cricketer. Mentioning his icon, he named the former Chennai Super Kings player and one of the most successful Indian middle-order batters, Suresh Raina.
“Like everyone else, I also dream of playing for India, but I am focused on the IPL. Just want to keep performing for KKR and help them win matches. Suresh Raina has been my idol since the start and I follow him. He is a very good fielder and he also used to bat lower down the order as I do,” Rinku Singh told India Today Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai in an exclusive interview.
Rinku scored 48 not out of 21 balls and pulled off a surprising win from the mouth of Gujarat Titans. During this, he smashed one four and six sixes.
