In the 52 match of Indian Premier League 2023, SunRisers Hyderabad needed five runs to win on the final ball. Abdul Samad hit the ball and Jos Buttler caught it off Sandeep Sharma’s bowling. Rajasthan Royals players started celebrating as they thought they had won but their joy was short-lived as the umpire signalled it off “No Ball”.
Abdul brought disappointment on the face of Rajasthan Royals players as he hit the ball over Sandeep’s head for a six, leading SunRisers Hyderabad to a four-wicket victory in Jaipur on Sunday. After this win SRH moved up to the ninth position in the IPL 2023 points table replacing Delhi Capitals.
After this match, SRH captain Sanju Samson showed his sorrow over the no ball and confessed that it ‘ruined’ the result of RR and at the same time he praised the SRH batters for their mind blowing efforts.
Samson said that he was very much confident that Sandeep Sharma could defend those 17 rhna in the final over as he had done against the Chennai Super Kings against Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
While having a conversation after the match, Samson said,”This is what IPL gives you, matches like these makes the IPL special. You can never, never, never feel like you have won the game. I knew any opponent can win it and they were batting well too, but I was confident with Sandeep (for defending in the final over). He has won us a game from a similar situation (against CSK). He did it again today but that no-ball ruined our result.”
He further added,”We played really well with the bat to put up that kind of a score on this wicket, but I think they (SRH) batted really sensibly, credit has to go to them for the way they batted.”
While chasing the target of 215 runs, SRH had a great start where Anmolpreet(33) and Abhishek Sharma (55) added 51 runs for the first wicket. After the departure of Anmolpreet, Abhishek carried the momentum with Rahul Tripathi who scored 47 runs in just 29 balls. Apart from them Heinrich Klaasen(26) and Glenn Phillips also got(25) played some quick knocks to maintain the required run rate.

When SRH needed 41 runs from the last two overs, Glenn Phillips smashed three consecutive sixes and a four against Kuldip Yadav to bring his team back into the game.
In the last over, SRH needed 17 runs where Abdul Samad started searching for the boundary from the first ball. There happened a last ball drama when SRH needed 5 runs off the last ball. Samad tried to hit it over the field but he was caught out, then only it was termed as “No Ball” by the umpire due to overstepping of Sandeep Sharma. After this Samad hit a six and won the match for the team.
