The former Indian opener Murali Vijay who has recently retired from cricket has criticised the media for constantly discussing MS Dhoni’s retirement. Vijay said that players deserve some respect towards the end of their careers and the media should not speculate anything of their own. Vijay has also played for the Chennai Super Kings under the captaincy of Dhoni.
As the IPL 2023 approaches, there are two prominent discussions, one is the workload management for players and second is the possibility of MS Dhoni playing the IPL for the last time. The issue of workload management has become a significant concern in recent times with players having to play in multiple formats of the game leading to burnout and injuries. On the other hand, the potential retirement of MS Dhoni has generated a lot of speculation and interest among fans and experts.
Vijay made a comment in response to being asked about the media’s coverage of individuals suggesting that it can cause pressure. He also took a dig at those who claim to be fans but then turn on players by promoting talk of retirement. Based on his response, it seems like he may have personal experience with this type of situation.
Murali Vijay said,“It’s an individual choice. It’s high time people understand what a cricketer is going through. He’s served our country for about 15 years. So we should be giving him space to take that call, rather than putting pressure by asking when he’s going to retire. It’s very harsh for y’all to ask this question. Everybody is asking about MS’ retirement.”
He further added,”It is so sad for me to sit and answer it. I have retired recently, so I know how it feels. We have given our heart and soul to this game and it’s a personal choice, and I want to tell people to maintain that little bit of privacy.”
The critics of Dhoni are not satisfied with his fitness, but on the other hand, his loyal supporters have mixed feelings. They seem to be curious about the possibility of Dhoni’s decline or retirement, but at the same time they hope that it never happens.
