The captain of Lucknow Super Giants KL Rahul himself announced on his social media account that he won’t be participating in the remaining part of IPL 2023. At the same time, he also revealed that he won’t be available for the World Test Championship Final in June 2023 at The Oval. Despite the event being a month away, LSG has already roped in Karun Nair as Rahul’s replacement for the IPL matches.
The statement from Indian Premier League reads,”“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday named Karun Nair as a replacement for the injured KL Rahul for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.”
The replacement for KL Rahul, Karun Nair has played 76 matches in IPL in which he has scored 1496 runs. LGS got him at his base price which is INR 50 Lakh. Nair has played IPL for RCB(2012-13), Rajasthan Royals(2014, 2015, 2022), Delhi Capitals (2016-2017) and Punjab Kings(2018-2020).
Earlier this week, during an IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Rahul got injured in his thigh while fielding. He attempted to stop the ball from the boundary on a superb hit by Faf Du Plessis.
Earlier, KL Rahul wrote a post on his instagram story where he himself declared about his exclusion from IPL.
“After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it’s been concluded that I’ll be undergoing surgery on my thigh shortly. My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It’s a tough call, but I know it’s the right one to ensure a full recovery. I was gutted that I won’t be with Team India at the Oval next month. I’ll do everything possible to return to the blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority”, KL Rahul posted on his Instagram account.
Rahul, also the captain of the Lucknow Supergiants, was the backbone of his team in the batting department. He used to play an elemental part on their home ground in Lucknow’s batting by holding one end. His absence will be a big blow for the team, who are currently placed 2nd in IPL 2023 points table.
