IPL 2023: KKR Ropes In This English Star As The Replacement For Shreyas Iyer

Due to the unavailability of captain Shreyas Iyer and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Kolkata Knight Riders have signed the dashing England opener Jason Roy for the remaining matches of the IPL 2023.

Jason Roy has been acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL 2023 at a cost of INR 2.8 crore, which is higher than his base price which is INR 1.5 crore.

The two time champions KKR have faced setbacks with the unavailability of their captain Shreyas Iyer due to a lower back injury and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has confirmed that he will not be able to participate in the tournament.

As of now they have only gone with Jason Roy and it is still unknown whether they will seek another replacement or not in the later part of the tournament.

A KKR spokesperson gave a clarification on this and said,”We’ve lost two players in Iyer and Shakib, got one in the form of Roy.”

Jason Roy had previously played in the 2017 and 2018 editions of the IPL and was last seen playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 season. He appeared in five matches during the season, scoring 150 runs, which included a half-century. Roy has represented England in 64 T20Is, where he scored 1522 runs with eight fifties at a strike rate of 137.61.
