Former Sunrisers Hyderabad Tom Moody has worked closely with the SRH management and knows the Indian Premier League in and out. His latest has come on the young destructive batter of SRH Abdul Samad who won an unbelievable match for his team against Rajasthan Royals scoring 17 runs in just 7 balls.
Moody has compared Abdul Samad to Yusuf Pathan and drew the comparison between these two batsmen due to Samad’s power-hitting abilities and capacity to hit long sixes.
Abdul Samad played a crucial role in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s thrilling last-ball victory against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, where he hit a six off Sandeep Sharma’s final delivery. Despite being caught at long off when five runs were required off the last ball, the 21-year-old was granted a second chance due to Sharma’s overstepping which resulted in a no-ball. Samad’s exceptional knock of 17 runs off just seven balls included two sixes and with this win SRH are still in the race of playoffs.
While having a conversation at ESPNcricinfo, Moody said,”What Abdul Samad has got as a young, emerging player is a rare ability to hit the ball out of the ground. He reminds me of a young Yusuf Pathan. He’s got that strength, power, and it’s a very hard role to play.”
Tom Moody was associated with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team as a director and later as head coach in 2021 and 2022. During this period, he worked closely with Samad and observed his skills and potential. Samad is known for his big-hitting abilities, and has been part of the SRH squad since 2020.
He further added,”I hope that it gives the management and the franchise confidence that they have got the right person because that is the hardest part. Forget about the player having confidence, you need the organisation – wherever you are – to have confidence in you, and I think if you look at his erratic selection over the last two years, I think that hopefully, this is the turning point for him.”
