IPL 2023: AB De Villiers And Tom Moody Give An ‘Unique’ Suggestion To Pick Orange Cap Winner In The Tournament

The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has commenced with exciting matches that have entertained the fans till now. Moreover, the current season has come with some changes in rules which somehow increased the excitement level among spectators.

The former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has proposed another change to this T20 league, suggesting that the winner of the ‘Orange Cap’ award should be determined by a combination of the total number of runs scored and the strike rate. The former South African star AB De Villiers has also supported Moody’s idea.

Moody tweeted his suggestion on his official Twitter handle where he wrote:- “The highly sought after Orange Cap should be judged with S/R in mind. I believe runs + S/R combined are more valuable/relevant in #T20. This would also include middle-order batters who are rarely in contention. What that formula is, I’ll leave to the experts.”

De Villiers also replied to this and wrote, “Been saying this for ages. No brainer. It’s a comp between 1,2 and possible/rarely number 3 batters.”

If we look at the history of Orange Cap winners, only two players, Michael Hussey in 2013 and KL Rahul in 2020, have won this award with a strike rate below 130. In 2013, Chris Gayle emerged as the second-highest run-scorer with 708 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 156.29.
