Star batsmen Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill didn’t make the best of their returns to Test cricket. While the former West Indian captain hit only 6 runs on Day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh, Gill failed to score anything at all. India experienced an extraordinary collapse in their batting order when they also lost skipper Rohit Sharma with just 6 runs against his name. Had it not been for some late day heroics from Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, India might have found themselves in deep trouble. Even though there were a number of other players who should have performed well this Thursday, Kohli and Gill were trolled more than others mainly because they had been seen fooling around with head coach Gautam Gambhir inside the locker room.
There are some images floating around on social media that show Gill and Kohli engaged in a conversation session with the India head coach. Jokes seemed to be the order of the day as Gambhir, Kohli and Gill laughed together in the dressing room even though it was such a difficult time for them at the crease.
Nevertheless, people on this social media platform were not happy with what they saw – Kohli and Gill threw their wickets so fast.
After India lost 3 wickets for only 34 runs on Day 1, the temperature rose inside their dressing room. Hasan Mahmud from Bangladesh disturbed everything with his brand-new ball and removed Rohit, Kohli, and Gill; later that day, he also sent Rishabh Pant back to pavilion. Till stumps, India scored 339/6 on end of days play with R Ashwin having a ton already while Ravindra Jadeja was still batting on 86*.
Saturday was marked by high tensions at the Indian dressing room after the team lost three wickets for just thirty-four runs. Hasan Mahmud, a Bangladeshi pacer, wreaked havoc with the new ball getting rid of Rohit, Kohli and Gill before later dismissing Rishabh Pant. At stumps, India had put 339/6 on board with R Ashwin having already completed a century while Ravindra Jadeja was on 86 not out.
