Team India is currently in the driver’s seat as the hosts have completely dominated the visitors in the ongoing fifth test between India and England.
In the Dharamshala test, India first of all put on a splendid performance with the ball as they bundled England for just 218 on the board.
On day two, team India continued their dominance with the bat as Rohit Sharma (103) and Shubhman Gill (110) completely stole the show, putting India on the driver’s seat as the hosts had already reached 473/8, taking the lead of 255 runs.
Apart from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill Yashasvi Jaiswal (57), Devdutt Padikkal (65) and Sarfraz Khan (56) also registered their half-centuries.
With such a splendid performance with the batting team, India registered a rare milestone, as this is the first time in test cricket that India’s top five has fifty or more runs against England in a test match.
The last time India’s top five made half-centuries was against Sri Lanka way back in 2009. This is only the fourth instance of all five of India’s top five being able to register fifty or more.
India’s top five batters registering 50+ scores in test matches:
- India vs. Australia, Kolkata, 1998
- India vs. New Zealand, Mohali, 1999
- India vs. Sri Lanka, Mumbai (Brabourne), 2009
- India vs. England, Dharamsala, 2024
