Meanwhile, the former Australian captain has picked the key player for India in the WTC Final. Mohammed Shami has been in exceptional form for the last few months. He displayed his skills during the recently concluded IPL 2023, where he took 28 wickets and won the prestigious Purple Cap as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. However, the upcoming World Test Championship final in England has a new challenge for him. The playing conditions of England is totally different from that of India and the bowler needs to adapt the conditions to benefit his team.
Shami will take all the responsibility of the Indian pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. The presence of batters like Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne in the opposition makes them potentially threatening in the middle. Talking about the potential of Shami, Ricky Ponting said that if India has to win the WTC Final, Shami would play the key role for India.
While talking in the latest episode of ICC review, Ponting said,”Mohammed Shami has to step up or try to take his game to another level if India are going to win this game. When you talk to the Australian batters as well, they understand how good Shami is, whether it’s the new ball or old ball, whether it’s in Australia or India.”
