Before moving to Australian Soil for the T20 World Cup 2022, Rohit Sharma’s side will play a 3-match T20I series against India Australia. The first match of the series is to be played in Mohali on September 20 followed by 2nd and 3rd on 23 and 25 September respectively.
The 2021 T20 World Cup campaign of Team India in UAE was just a nightmare where India got knocked out from the super 12 round and didn’t make it into the playoffs.
Former Indian opener and now a cricket expert Gautam Gambhir has highlighted a major point which India need to follow if they want to win the T20 World Cup 2022.
Gambhir claimed that if India has to win the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2022 then they need to beat Aaron Finch’s side in the upcoming 3-match T20I series.
While speaking during a press conference organised by Star Sports, Gambhir said,”I have said this earlier and I am saying this again. India cannot win the (T20) World Cup if they do not beat Australia.”
He further added,”I mean, look at the 2007 T20 World Cup. We defeated them in the semi-finals. In the 2011 ODI World Cup, we thrashed them in the quarter-finals. Australia is one of the most competitive teams out there and you will have to beat them if you want to win any competition.”
Gambhir also talked about the opening pair of team India for the upcoming series and T20 World Cup 2022. He said that KL Rahul should be there at the top with Rohit Sharma even after going through a rough phase by runs.
