The excitement around the India vs New Zealand ODI series has taken another hit, with injuries forcing more changes before the first ball is bowled. Fans are eagerly waiting to watch Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return, hoping for the same excitement that marked the T20I series. But both teams will enter the ODIs without several important players.
India are already without Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, while Prasidh Krishna has also been ruled out. Now, two key New Zealand players have failed to recover in time, forcing the hosts to revise their squads.
Chapman and Ravindra Ruled Out
Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra will miss the entire ODI series as they continue recovering from hamstring and shoulder injuries respectively.
Chapman needs another two weeks of rehabilitation for his left hamstring. Ravindra’s right shoulder needs more recovery before he can field at full capacity. Their absence is a significant setback for New Zealand’s batting.
Four Changes to New Zealand’s Squad
New Zealand have made four adjustments, bringing in two players and extending the availability of two others.
| Player | Updated availability |
|---|---|
| Tim Seifert | Added for the first three ODIs; already selected for the final two |
| Henry Nicholls | Called up for the first three ODIs |
| Dean Foxcroft | Called up for the final two ODIs |
| Matt Fisher | Available for the full series; initially selected for the final two |
Matt Henry will join the squad, but his availability to play remains subject to a fitness assessment. Fisher gives New Zealand an additional bowling option while Henry’s readiness is assessed.
Auqib Nabi Added Following Prasidh Krishna’s Withdrawal
India have brought Auqib Nabi into the squad for the first three ODIs following Prasidh Krishna’s withdrawal. Prasidh is recovering from a hamstring injury and needs more time to build his match workload.
Nabi was already selected for the fourth and fifth ODIs. His addition for the opening three matches makes him available throughout the series.
