India’s T20I squad after winning the trophy of the 2024 T20 World Cup held in the West Indies has undergone a major upheaval.
Some of the stars have said goodbye to the format, while some of the young players have been showing their potential to be India’s next T20 sensation. The next edition of the glamorous tournament is beckoning and they are all set to TAKE ON the challenges.
With the tournament starting in February 2026, a five-match T20I series will be India’s run-up to that. Furthermore, it has been reported that Team India is likely to have the same squad for the T20 World Cup that was part of the T20I series against the Kiwis.
BCCI has been using the same strategy for both the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025. Since there are only a few T20Is left before the 2026 World Cup, any major changes would not be possible.
PTI was informed by a source who is very close to the team about the idea of carrying forward the same team for the T20 World Cup. The source said that there are only 10 T20s left before the World Cup and there is no need to make drastic changes in the squad unless someone is completely unavailable because of an injury. He further added that, the main reason would be the continuity and the 15 players chosen for the series against the Black Caps will not be changed at all due to the short turnaround time.

India, after finishing the ODI series against South Africa, will lock horns with the Proteas in a five-match T20I series starting December 9. They will then directly confront the Kiwis in the shortest format next year.
The series against South Africa is going to be the litmus test for Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir to prove India’s mettle before the major event by unveiling the final blueprint. The Indian team has not been able to claim any ICC trophy on home soil after the ODI World Cup in 2011. However, the coming tournament in India gives the Men in Blue a great opportunity to break the lean patch.
