The Indian cricket team has a series of five T20I matches against South Africa, and the last game that determines the winning team will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, December 19. The Men in Blue, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, have already won two matches out of three played and will try to end the series in their favor with a victory in the last game.

After the South African series, India will take up ICC T20 World Cup 2026 finalization of their preparation. India will have a series of three ODIs followed by five T20 matches against New Zealand.

Series of T20I with South Africa and New Zealand will serve as part of India’s overall plan to prepare for the T20 World Cup, which is set to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka starting February 7, 2026. India, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, will defend their title as they won T20 World Cup in 2024.

When is the T20 World Cup squad for India going to be announced by BCCI? In a recent twist, Gaurav Gupta from the Times of India mentions that the Indian selection committee is going to convene on Saturday (December 20, 2025) at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to confirm the player list for the New Zealand T20I series and the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Selectively speaking, both teams consist of the same players, as the decision-makers are not expected to make any drastic changes at this point. Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian captain, has been in Ahmedabad for the last T20I against South Africa, and he is also likely to be at the meeting.

Ajit Agarkar will likely be the one facing the media at the BCCI office in Mumbai, but the situation has not been formally confirmed by the board.

Initially, the selectors will propose a 15-member squad to the ICC as the tournament rules dictate. Even though this temporary squad has to be notified in advance, teams can still make alterations right up to the start of the tournament if players get injured or their performance drops.

India’s timetable in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026

As one of the two hosts, along with Sri Lanka, India will play their first game on February 7, 2026, against the USA at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After that, their next Group A match is going to be played in Delhi against Namibia, and then they will fly to Colombo for an exciting match against their biggest rivals, Pakistan. Finally, India will move to Ahmedabad to finish the group stage against the Netherlands.
