India Or UAE? IPL Chairman Announces The Date For 2024 Edition Despite Lok Sabha Elections

According to a recent report, the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is likely to kick off on March 22, 2024, in India. The chairman of this cash-rich league Arun Dhumal has mentioned that despite the dates of the tournament coinciding with the 2024 Loksabh elections.

The election is likely to be held in April and on the other hand, the schedule of the upcoming edition is also to be revealed very soon. According to the chairman of the tournament, the management will announce the schedule for the first 15 days while the remaining dates will be announced after the announcement of the dates of the general elections.

“We are looking at a March 22 start for the tournament. We are working closely with the government agencies and we will first release the initial schedule. The entire tournament will be held in India,” said Dhumal.

In 2009, the IPL took place in South Africa instead of India, and in 2014, the first 20 matches were hosted in the UAE due to the concurrent general elections. However, in 2019, the entire tournament was held in India, notwithstanding the simultaneous elections.

The IPL seasons of 2020 and 2021 were also conducted in the UAE due to COVID-19 restrictions in India, marking the instances of the tournament being held outside the country during those years.
