‘India Depends Upon Him, He Has To Do Well’, Sourav Ganguly On This Indian Superstar

After a bad run that lasted for over two years, Virat Kohli is now back to his top form. In addition to dominating the T20 World Cup in Australia, the 34-year-old has managed to record three hundred in his last nine ODI games. The cricketer, who was born in Delhi, is yet to show his form in Test matches. There is cause for concern right now, especially with Australia touring India for a four-match series that begins February 9. He was unable to contribute much in the two-match series against Bangladesh.

But Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India, has the cricketer’s support and predicts that he would succeed in the game’s longest format as well. The 50-year-old said that because the Indian cricket team depends on him in Test matches, he must rise and perform once more.

Ganguly said to India Today, “Virat Kohli is doing good. He has done well against Bangladesh and Srilanka. He has to do well in Test Cricket also because the Indian cricket team depends on him. The Australia series is coming soon and I hope it will be a very good one. I want India and Australia to play the World Test Championship Final.”

The Indian team has recently faced a lot of issues as a result of last-minute changes and chopping. Ambati Rayudu was replaced by Vijay Shankar just before the 2019 ODI World Cup, and Varun Chakravarthy was chosen over Yuzvendra Chahal in the T20 World Cup despite the latter being the early favorite to play. As a result, the selectors have made several unexpected decisions, and Ganguly no longer wants that.

To end the Indian team’s trophy drought and win an ICC trophy, he urged the selectors and coach Rahul Dravid to stick with the same lineup through the World Cup.

He added, “Indian side is very strong. India can’t be a bad team. In our country, there are lots of players who play cricket. Half of them don’t get a chance in the national team as the competition is very high. I want this team to play till World Cup. I want that the selectors and Rahul Dravid should keep this team together till the [2023 ODI] World Cup.
Just they have to play the World Cup fearlessly, they have to keep calm. They are a good team. All the players are good. This team has Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, and Ravindra Jadeja will also come back. And this is a very strong team.”
