IND vs SL, 2023 ODI World Cup: Why Is Hardik Pandya Not Playing Against Sri Lanka?

India is facing Sri Lanka in the 33rd match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. In this match, the Sri Lankan captain won the toss and elected to bowl first. Indian all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya will not be available for today’s 2023 World Cup match against Sri Lanka due to his ongoing recovery from an ankle injury.

Hardik Pandya sustained a left ankle injury while attempting to stop a ball during the match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Subsequently, he was quickly taken to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Since then numerous talks have been going on regarding the recovery of Hardik Pandya.

While talking in a pre-match conference, skipper Rohit Sharma said, “I don’t want to use the word rehabilitation.”

“Whatever news we are getting from the NCA is all positive. Hardik is doing well but it is an injury that needs to be monitored daily. We need to see how much he could bat, how much he could bowl, and then decide.”

“He is not available for the game here, that’s all I can say now. But overall the news about his recovery is positive,” he added.

According to recent reports, the team management is taking a cautious approach and doesn’t want to hurry Hardik’s return. They intend to provide him with ample time to recuperate so that he can contribute to his team in the knockout stage.
