Veteran South African leg spinner Imran Tahir has achieved a special milestone in his T20 career. On Tuesday, Tahir accomplished a remarkable feat by becoming the fourth bowler in the history of T20 cricket to claim 500 or more wickets.
The 44-year-old achieved this milestone while playing for Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 match against Khulna Tigers at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Joining the exclusive club of bowlers with 500 or more T20 wickets, Imran Tahir now stands alongside the likes of veteran pacer Dwayne Bravo, Rashid Khan, and Sunil Narine. Tahir has reached this remarkable milestone in his 404th T20 match.
Prior to the encounter with the Tigers, Imran Tahir had 497 wickets in his T20 career. He reached the historic 500-wicket milestone by dismissing the formidable Alex Hales, who was batting at 60 and had accumulated 7 fours and 3 sixes.
After claiming the wickets of Hales, Imran Tahir continued his exceptional performance by securing a 5-wicket haul. His five wickets include Hales, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Afif Hossain Shrubo, Habibul Rahman, and Akbar Ali.
Imran Tahir was part of the Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 2024, and the team progressed to Qualifier 2 before being eliminated. In the course of 11 matches, Tahir contributed with 9 wickets with an economy rate of 7.61.
