Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravinchandran Ashwin has said that Pakistan will be a side to beat in the ongoing Asia Cup tournament. The Men in Green has performed consistently better in the ODI format and Ashwin has given the token of appreciation to Babar Azam and company. Not only this, Pakistan currently hold the number one rank in the ICC ODI Team Ranking.
According to Ashwin, he believes that traditional rivals India and Pakistan are the frontrunners to secure the Asia Cup title this year.
Ashwin pointed out that Pakistan’s strength in the Asia Cup event could be elevated by the consistent performances of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, both of whom have been delivering strong performances for their team. Their contributions could potentially make Pakistan a more formidable and dangerous contender in the tournament.
While speaking on his official Youtube Channel, R Ashwin said,“If Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan consistently dish out performances with the bat, Pakistan will be one hell of a team heading into this Asia Cup and the World Cup. It will take some beating since Pakistan is an extraordinary team.”
Babar Azam and his team managed to secure a 3-0 victory against Afghanistan in the ODI series. This win helped Pakistan to move up in the ICC ODI rankings.
Ashwin feels that there is a depth in the Pakistan Cricket Team and they are the top contenders to win the Asia Cup tournament.
Ashwin said,“It is all down to their (Pakistan’s) squad depth. Pakistan has invariably developed exceptional cricketers.Thanks to its tape-ball cricket, they have always produced an incredible series of pacers. Also, their batting has been superior during the late 90s and 2000s,” he added.
