ICC WT20 2022 Super 12, SL vs IRE: Kusal Mendis Fires, Sri Lanka Clinched A 9-Wicket Victory Over Irish Team

The 15th match of the ICC men’s T20 World was played between Ireland and Sri Lanka in which the Sri Lankan side clinched a 9-wicket victory.

Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie won the toss and elected to bat first but the Irish team did not have a great start. The team managed to get 128 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 8 wickets. For Ireland, Harry Tector got the maximum 45 runs with the help of 2 fours and one six. The opener Paul Stirling got 34 runs in 25 balls with 4 fours and a single six.

Talking about the Sri Lankan bowling, the giant spinners Mahesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga got 2-2 wickets each. On the other hand, Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, C Karunaratne, Dhananjaya De Silva got 1-1 wickets each.

Chasing the target of 129 runs, Sri Lanka had a super start where the openers added 63 runs for the 1st wicket in 8.2 overs. Dhananjaya De Silva got out after scoring 31 runs. After this loss, the team did not lose another wicket and Kusal Mendis(68) and Charith Asalanka(31) took Srilanka to home in just 15 Overs.

For Ireland, Gerath Delany got De Silva. Kusal Mendis of Sri Lanka for playing a solid knock of 68 runs was adjudged player of the match.
