Australia won the toss and elected to field first. New Zealand openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway made sure that Australia regretted the decision to bowl first. Finn Allen exploded during the powerplay and scored 42 runs in 16 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Kane Williamson played a slow inning, given the situation before getting lbw by Adam Zampa. He scored 23 runs in 23 balls. Jimmy Neesham finished the innings with a six taking the total to 200. He made 26 runs in 13 balls with 2 sixes. But the performance of the day was from Devon Conway who dismantled the Australian attack by smashing 92 runs in 58 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes.
For Australia, all plans against New Zealand went against them. Ace bowlers like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Adam Zampa kept leaking runs throughout the innings. Josh Hazlewood was the highest wicket-taker from Australia taking 2 wickets for 41 runs. Adam Zampa took 1 wicket giving 39 runs with the ball.
