In the weeks ahead, a team from ICC is expected to visit Pakistan to observe arrangements for the Champions Trophy which will be hosted there next year. According to Sports Tak report, the ICC delegation will probably arrive in Pakistan within few days (ten days max) to inspect preparation and other important aspects. The cricket governing body is anticipated to announce on schedule and sales of tickets for the tournament soon after this visit.
Earlier this year, Rs 12.80 billion was allocated by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as an upgradation plan for three venues – Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium – that are likely in hosting this mega event.
However, it remains unclear whether or not India is going to take part since board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) will act according Central government’s instructions about their involvement.
Meanwhile, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi claimed about being in touch with BCCI regarding their Champions Trophy participation.
“Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan; we’ve maintained communication with all boards participating,” Naqvi shared according to Geo News.
“I keep in contact with Jay Shah; there are no worries concerning his chance of being the ICC chairman. The ACC gathering is scheduled on September 8th and 9th.” He stated, “I won’t be able to go for it, however, Salman Nasir will represent us there; we’ll learn how these issues concerning new president have been solved.”
BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been appointed as the new ICC chairperson last month which implies that he must resign from both Asian Cricket Council (ACC) presidency and also home board.
For Asia Cup last year, India denied visiting Pakistan, so their games took place in Colombo, Sri Lanka while remaining cup took place on Pakistani soil.
