It’s a face-off between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the T20 World Cup 2026. As per sources say the ICC, headed by Jay Shah, is thinking about coming down hard on Pakistan. This is after Pakistan said they wouldn’t play their T20 World Cup match against India on February 15, showing support for Bangladesh, who were switched out for Scotland in the event.
Things got heated after Bangladesh was removed. On Sunday, Pakistan said they’d send their team to Sri Lanka but wouldn’t play against India, which surprised everyone. The Pakistani government posted on X (Twitter) that their team could play in the T20 World Cup, but not against India on February 15.
The PCB, led by Mohsin Naqvi, said they were standing with Bangladesh, whose request to move matches from India was turned down by the ICC. Pakistan saw it as standing up for what’s right, but others thought it messed with the tournament’s money and fairness.
In the past, India has been pressured to not play against Pakistan because of political issues. Still, the Indian team played in the 2025 Asia Cup in Pakistan, with the BCCI putting the stability of other members and the sport first. But when it was Pakistan’s turn to do the same, they chose politics over the game.

The ICC said on Sunday that the PCB should think again or face big penalties. If Pakistan doesn’t back down in 48 hours, they could face:
Being Suspended: Like what happened to South Africa in the 70s, Pakistan could be banned from all international competitions.
Freezing NOCs: Foreign players might not be allowed to play in the PSL, which would hurt Pakistan’s main domestic league.
Holding Back Money: Pakistan’s share of ICC money, about $34.5 million a year, could be frozen.
